Gel is used on the surface of skin to reduce friction. Variable intensities are provided by your physical therapist dependent on a patient’s unique condition.

There are many benefits to utilizing the ultrasound therapy technique. The most common is speeding up a healing process by increasing blood flow to the area. Ultrasound therapy also reduces pain that is correlated with swelling. A third benefit is incurring gentle massages of muscles, tendons and ligamints.

Ice and Heat Therapy

Ice and heat therapy is the most common “at home” therapy for sports injuries, muscle pain and joint pain.

Ice therapy is used to reduce swelling and assist with the controlling of pain immediately after an injury. Heat therapy is often used to relax muscles, increase circulation and provide relief to patients who undergo chronic pain. Depending on the unique condition of the patient, a combination of both ice and heat therapy may be recommended.
